NotesIn 2016, the Salmon River hatchery presented fishery managers with a problem. "The Coastal Multispecies Conservation and Management Plan calls for hatchery Chinook Salmon that mimic the wild population to be limited to 30% of the spawners in natural areas. The percentage of hatchery Chinook Salmon in natural areas has averaged 60% since 1992. The hatchery weir at Salmon River Hatchery is not effective at diverting all hatchery fish into the hatchery." Options for remedying this situation are discussed in this document.
