Notes | This paper has been called a “pioneering exercise in systems ecology.” Dr. Macnab attempted to characterize the entire ecosystem. It is a fascinating look at part of Lincoln County, relying on fieldwork done from 1932-1938. There is nothing from the era to match it, and lnothing so comprehensive since. We are lucky to have it. While the focus is largely terrestrial, the headwaters of the Salmon River are in the area, and the Salmon River was part of the environment. See Also Dirks-Edmunds 1941 and Bayer 1994. |
